Location: Providence, RI

Candidates are required to have a doctoral degree in a clinical or counseling field (e.g., clinical or counseling psychology) and previous training and experience in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for cigarette smoking cessation and/or other substance use disorders. Previous training and experience in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and/or behavioral treatment of weight and/or body image concerns is also desirable and preferred. Regardless of background, Dr. Bloom will provide additional training and supervision specific to the study interventions.

Dr. Erika Bloom, a clinical psychologist at Rhode Island Hospital, is seeking to hire group leaders for her NIH-funded study. The aim of the study is to compare the efficacy of two group-based behavioral interventions for women who smoke cigarettes and are concerned about gaining weight after quitting. Both interventions are delivered to small groups of 3-10 women and consist of 8 weekly sessions. The required time commitment is up to 5 hours per week on Thursday afternoons and evenings from 3:30-8pm: 3:30-4:30 meeting with Dr. Bloom, 4:30-5 preparation/set-up, 5-5:30 review sessions for participants who missed a previous group session, 5:30-7:30 lead group session, 7:30-8 clean-up. Additionally, group leaders conduct occasional individual sessions with participants that can be scheduled within this Thursday timeframe or on other days/times. Some adjustment to the time schedule (e.g., starting later or earlier than 3:30pm) may be possible.
