Applicants can either be a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

Nurse Practitioner Requirements:

Graduate of Nurse Practitioner program with MS degree. Current RI NP license that includes prescriptive privileges. Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) to practice in the expanded role. Certification by the American Heart Association in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required.

Clinical experience as a nurse practitioner for two years is preferred. Must have patient care services, procedures, and privileges approved by the sponsoring physician. Demonstrates clinical expertise in cardiology.

Physician Assistant Requirements:

Graduate of a Physician Assistant Program with B.S. Degree or its equivalent. Certified or certification eligible by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants. Certified in American Heart Association Basic Life Support/Advanced Cardiac Life Support.

One to two years experience in a clinical cardiology practice. Must have patient care services, procedures, and privileges approved by the sponsoring physician.

This Advance Practice Professional is responsible for practicing medicine with physician supervision including conducting examinations, managing patients medically, facilitating interventions for patients. APPs exercise delegated autonomy in medical decision making and provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services including responsibilities for education, research and administrative services, in accordance with the Lifespanand The Miriam Hospital’s mission, vision, values, with consideration of the lifespan, including all developmental stages as well as cultural patterns. Reports directly to sponsoring Cardiologist for clinical activities with an administrative reporting relationship to the Director, Administrative Operations.
