Baccalaureate in Nursing preferred. Certification Nephrology Nursing Certification preferred.

Must have current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island or in another state that participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact.

Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

QUALIFICATIONS-EXPERIENCE:

At least two years of increasing responsibility and experience as a clinical nurse in provisional care to acute and chronic hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients. Experience must include dialysis focus of renal and hematological systems, such as managing fluid and electrolyte balances, hemodynamics such as anemia management, iron management, bone disease management and being able to differentiate renal lab values from normal lab values.

An additional six months to one year on the job experience to become familiar with management aspects of the Dialysis Center.

Professional level of knowledge of clinical nursing of dialysis patients for provision and evaluation of quality of care.

Supervisory and managerial skills required to lead and evaluate subordinate staff, to prepare budget, etc.

Interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all levels of personnel within and outside the Hospital, members of the health care team, subordinate staff, patients, families, etc.

Analytical skills to evaluate patients and prepare and review budget.

Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and all levels of hospital personnel.


The Clinical Manager Outpatient Dialysis reports clinically to the Medical Director, Dialysis Center and administratively to the Director of Pathology Administration. According to established policies and procedures and in accordance with Federal Conditions of Participation for End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Facilities, is responsible for the direction and provision of nursing care within the Dialysis Center. Plans, supervises and evaluates effective utilization of staff based on patient needs and available resources. Establishes and implements the Center’s nursing policies and procedures, ensuring integration with Hospital nursing standards of care. Participates in development of the Center’s goals and objectives. Develops budget, monitoring expenditures and reviewing any variances.
