Bachelor’s Degree in Food and Nutrition is required or equivalent preparatory program.
Thorough understanding of the application of principles of nutrition to human physiology and disease states. A thorough knowledge of the nutritional values of food and food groups.
Analytical ability to identify overt and potential nutritional problems. The ability to develop nutritional care plans for review by the Clinical Dietitian.
Oral and written communication skills necessary to deal effectively with patients, families and hospital personnel in communicating dietetic care plans, etc. Leadership skills to effectively coordinate and evaluate activities of subordinate work group.
Demonstrate knowledge, skills and compassion necessary to provide care to pediatric patients with the consideration of psychiatric diagnoses, developmental disabilities, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
Basic computer skills with ability to utilize CBORD, Lifechart, and other softwares and databases, Microsoft Word, Excel, Publish, and Outlook.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
One year experience as a diet technician in a healthcare facility is preferred. Experience with pediatric and/or psychiatric patients is highly desirable.
Under the general supervision of the Bradley Hospital Clinical Nutrition Manager, performs duties such as but not limited to maintaining and updating data on the Nutrition Computerized system, including patients’ food selection, printing and reviewing tray tickets and reports, updating special diet lists and communicating special diet orders and nutrition plans with dietitians, nursing, and food service staff. Writes and continuously updates menus for patients. Reviews medical records of Bradley patients for nutrition risk and relays pertinent nutrition and medical histories to Clinical Dietitian. Visits patients, family members and, as appropriate, patient care partners to obtain diet related information, answers questions about diet related information and, diet prescriptions, and give diet counseling about dietary restrictions under dietitians’ guidance. Assists with patient nutrition education activities, including unit projects, and meal coaching. Assists with nutrition related in-services to departmental and hospital staff. Highly visible in on units at mealtimes to assess food acceptance, identify nutrition problems, and assist with problem solving. Performs units rounds to gather quality assurance data. Completes calorie counts and updates information on the medical record. Guide and educates interns, and other staff as assigned.
