Bachelor’s degree with a track record in writing and communications and/or non-profit development-related activities(e.g. executing exemplary fundraising database tasks, report writing, events management, and donor relations). Experience with fundraising campaigns and donor stewardship also a plus.


Minimum of three years’ experience in a not-for-profit environment.

Excellent writing and computer skills required with a working knowledge of word processing, Excel, and data base applications. Excellent analytical, organizational and communications skills required.


This position reports to the Senior Donor Relations Officer for Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children’s Hospital and provides tactical and analytical support for the front-line fundraising team in the areas of donor acknowledgement, recognition, cultivation, and reporting, working closely with the CDO, Major Gifts Officers, and the Planned Giving Officer. Conducts analysis and recommends meaningful and appropriate stewardship of individual and institutional major donors.

Works in collaboration with the Senior Donor Relations Officer, Chief Development Officer, Major Gifts Officers, others in the department, as well as volunteer leadership, to develop, implement, and coordinate an innovative and first-class donor relations program to complement overall fundraising goals and strategies for the Development Office of Rhode Island and Hasbro Children’s Hospitals.

Strategic Objectives for the Donor Relations Team include:

1. Gift Acceptance and Acknowledgement

Ensure donors receive prompt and appropriate acknowledgement letters for major gifts from leadership and major gift officers,and, clear and concise gift acceptance forms.

a. Annually update pledge forms, tax and leadership acknowledgements.

b. Draft and execute gift agreements and special acknowledgement letters for major giftsfrom hospital leadership.

c. Provide internal updates onsignificant gifts.

2. Donor Recognition

Recognize all donors according to their level of support per gift recognition standards and legacy naming opportunities for major donors.

a. Annually update gift recognition standards for donors.

b. Plan and implement special programs to honor those who have made a significant gift.

c. Assist in developing new naming opportunities and cataloguing existing donor recognition signage for both Hasbro Children’s and Rhode Island Hospitals. This includes: overseeing a new project to inventory/catalogue donor recognition signage in both hospitals;working with consultants on fine tuning new donor recognition design concepts; and ensuring a smooth process for installation of recognition signage.

3. Donor Cultivation

Cultivate donors and prospects to ensure continual giving and stronger engagement.

a. Assist with planning and implementing volunteer leadership trainings for various groups.

b. Assist with implementing communication strategies to enhance the stewardship and engagement of Rhode Island Hospital’s Board of Governors, the Living Heritage Society, and loyal donors.

c. Craft stewardship plans for top donors with major gift officers.

d. Plan and implement special events to thank, educate and inspire donors.

e. Coordinate hospital tours and arrange for special meetings with hospital leadership.

4. Donor Reporting

a. Conduct research with Gift Officers and medical staff to prepare stewardship letters, endowment reports and impact reports.

b. Research best practices in donor relations.

5. Execute Exemplary Administrative Support for Donor Relations Team and certain Development Office projects.

a. Schedule special project meetings.

b. Update information in Raiser’s Edge fundraising database.

c. Participate in prospect review meetings strategizing donor cultivation, management and collaborative efforts.

Develop and sustain excellent working relationships at all levels of the organization to generate interest and participation in stewardship initiatives.

Maintain quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control in accordance with established hospital policies, procedures, and objectives.
