Two years of formal training in an approved School of radiological technology, plus registration through the American Registry for radiologic Technologists.
Current/valid license from the Department of Health to practice in the State of Rhode Island.
Must take advanced registry test in Cardiovascular/Interventional Technology, given by the American Registry of radiologic Technologists within two (2) years of placement in Vascular/Interventional section of Diagnostic Imaging.
Must have the interpersonal skills necessary to interface effectively with the following groups:
a. Patients, in order to allay their fears and anxieties.
b. Physicians and other staff members in a team working relationship.
c. Other hospital employees and outsiders to exchange information.
Must have the analytical ability to calculate and select the proper technical factors to provide acceptable radiographs, and to simultaneously operate a variety of equipment.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
Requires between three to six months experience on the job training in Vascular and Interventional Radiology procedures.
Under general supervision of Lead Technologist and the section’s Medical Director following established policies and procedures, and in conjunction with other technical health care personnel, assists physicians in the conduct of specialized angiographic examinations of designated parts of the circulatory system. Operates high speed serial radiography and cinegraphy equipment which exposes film while high pressure injector is delivering the contrast media into the blood vessels from a catheter positioned by the physician.
