High school graduate or equivalent degree. Completion of one to two years of college preferred.
Successful completion of the Rhode Island Hospital or The Miriam Hospital Pharmacy Technician Training Program.
Must have and maintain current Rhode Island Pharmacy Technician licensure as well as National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT).

Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and sensitivity to cultural diversity in each step of the care process.

A minimum of two years of progressively more responsible work experience as a Pharmacy Technician, preferably at the Rhode Island or The Miriam Hospital.
Must possess solid computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, as well as email and calendar applications. Must be comfortable in using internet web applications and multiple pharmacy system applications.
Strong customer service presence and verbal and written communication skills are necessary to interact with customers/patients, physicians and ancillary support staff.
Work is exact and requires the ability to pay attention to detail to avoid serious error in medication dispensing and payment transactions.
Must be able to multi-task and reprioritize as needed while maintaining accuracy and service standards.

Under the supervision of a Pharmacist and direction of the Pharmacy Technician Group Leader, the Pharmacy Technician Specialist rotates to all applicable work assignments and work shifts of pharmacy services, including pharmacy retail, as business needs dictate and contingent upon individual demonstrated competency of necessary skills and knowledge for the respective area. Utilizes experience based knowledge to perform more advanced technical functions in preparing, formulating and packaging medication and pharmaceutical supplies.
