High school diploma or equivalent, plus accredited course available through a hospital, technical school or community college. Phlebotomy Certificate preferred.

Phlebotomists who are required to travel on the job must have a valid driver’s license, registration and proof of insurance.

Must know and practice principles of aseptic techniques.

Knowledge of blood collector equipment, anticoagulants used, special precautions and interferences.

Basic understanding of anatomy, physiology, infection control, specimen processing, medical terminology, anatomic terminology, first aid and safety.

Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination to perform venipuncture techniques and capillary puncture.

Customer service and communication skills to explain procedures and allay fears of patient, as well as to perform other activities which require courtesy and tact.

Physical ability to distinguish chromatic colors.

Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and sensitivity to cultural diversity in each step of the care process.


Previous phlebotomy experience to demonstrate venipuncture proficiency.

The Phlebotomist Outreach reports to the Manager, Outreach Services. Working under the guidance of the Senior or Lead Phlebotomist, performs responsibilities associated with customer service, patient registration, test ordering, obtaining blood and various other patient specimens and specimen processing. Performs related clerical support activities, maintains related records and reports, and supports patient service center operations.
