Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences with 2 - 3 years progressively more responsible related experience.

Requires a working knowledge of statistics, computer programming and research methodology.

Experience handling rodents and managing breeding colonies is preferred.

Requires a working knowledge of molecular biology techniques (e.g. nucleic acid extraction, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, etc.), research methodology, and statistics.

Requires the manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate complex equipment and to perform surgical procedures on animals.

Requires an in-depth knowledge of the scientific field in which the research is being conducted.


Two to three years experience in the particular research field.

The Senior research Assistant, working in the Orthopedic Research Unit and within established short-term goals, performs scientific, investigative research in areas that will ultimately translate to patient care. Will participate in setting short and long-term research project goals, and develops research plans to achieve these goals. Will perform administrative duties required for the successful operation of the lab. This position provides significant opportunity for independence and skill development.
Research methodologies: Conducts experiments using in vitro, in vivo, and molecular techniques. Maintains rodent colonies and keeps detailed breeding records. Collects and analyzes data using statistical methodology, and interprets results. Develops and maintains protocols to ensure research compliance, and interacts with review committees as the lab representative. Helps write research presentations and papers for publications.
