Successful completion of an AMA approved accredited school of Radiologic Technology or equivalent. Ability to operate all DXA equipment and to transfer and position patients.

Maintains current licensure as a radiographer in the State of Rhode Island. Must hold current ARRT certification. Certification from the International Society for Clinical Densitometry preferred.

Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress and who may ask questions about radiation exposure and meaning of DXA scans.

Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.


One year of experience.

Under the general supervision of the Medical Director of the Bone Densitometry Unit and following established procedures, performs diagnostic dual x-ray (DXA) procedures to apply prescribed ionizing radiation in order to assist the physician in the diagnosis and treatment of low bone mass. Performs related tasks such as daily quality control scans, assisting patients in positioning for correct anatomical exposure, maintaining computer data base of patient files, including back-ups onto storage media, maintaining order and cleanliness of work area and performs routine clerical tasks.
