Security Shift Lead

Summary:

Reports to the Security Manager in accordance with Hospital policies and procedures provides leadership for all security-related activity on assigned shift in addition to performing the duties of a Security Officer.

 

Responsibilities:

Consistently applies the corporate values of respect honesty and fairness and the constant pursuit of excellence in improving the health status of the people of the region through the provision of customer-friendly geographically accessible and high-value services within the environment of a comprehensive integrated academic health system. Is responsible for knowing and acting in accordance with the principles of the Lifespan Corporate Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.

Assists the supervisor with trainings assignments and when necessary provides reports recommends the discipline/commendation of security personnel on his/her shift.

Provides instruction and guidance in the day-to-day operations of security on his/her shift in accordance with policies and procedures of the department.

Interprets area policies and procedures to subordinate employees and others while providing functional guidance and leadership on a continuing basis.

Reports to the supervisor with recommendations as to the replacement repair or acquisition of equipment and/or supplies to ensure the continued and effective operation of the Security Department.

In absence of security leadership is in charge of all security operations and work with hospital nursing supervisor for all safety and security related incidents. 

Regularly performs all duties of subordinate security officers. Some duties will include monitoring restricted parking areas patrolling the parking areas and responding to any unusual or suspicious activities. Protects hospital buildings assets and premises. Provides security for patients employees and visitors.

Oversees the Newport Hospital employee badging program. Consistently affirms the hours of operation are met and that all badging supplies are maintained and ordered to keep the badging office running smoothly at all times.

Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established Lifespan Fleet Risk Policies and Procedures.

Performs other duties as necessary.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

 

Completion of high school or equivalent. Interpersonal skills deal effectively with hospital employees patients and the public.

Incident Command System (ICS) training must be completed within 45 days of hire.

Must be trained to carry less than lethal OC-Gel.

A valid driver's license required.

Supervisory abilities to effectively oversee the activities of all contracted Security staff and assist in the operation of the department.

Knowledge of safety and security policies procedures and regulations necessary to conduct inspections and ensure compliance with established regulations.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Prior experience as security officer or law enforcement officer preferred. Demonstrated leadership skills and ability necessary to direct the work of subordinates maintains department quality of standards leads and provides functional guidance to security personnel.

 

Prior experience in a health care environment preferred.

 

Must be able to complete all training which is deemed necessary by the hospital or the manager such as: SafetyCare restraint training etc.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Works in all environments of the Hospital complex including offices patient care environments parking areas buildings control rooms etc.

 

Must be able to remain standing for long periods of time.

 

Capable of running up several flights of stairs to provide assistance and to be able to complete services.

 

Must be able to carry weights in excess of 50 lbs. for 100 feet.

INDEPENDENT ACTION:

 

Performs independently within department policies and practices. Refers specific complex problems to supervisor where clarification of departmental policies and procedures may be required.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

None.  Team leadership for  up to 7 FTE�s and the contracted NH Armed Guard.
