Billing Specialist

Summary:
The Billing Specialist reporting to the Manager Diagnostic Imaging Support Services acts as a resource person to address problems or questions from radiologic staff as well as other hospital personnel patients and third party payors related to department coding and billing issues.

 

Responsibilities:
Checks reports for any discrepancies in coding and billing. Makes changes and reconciles incorrect data and accounts by placing corrected charges under current date on the appropriate account number. Credits all incorrect accounts for Patient Financial Operations.



Researches missing charges ranging from clinical system financial systems for Rhode Island Hospital The Miriam Hospital and Newport Hospital. Manually enters charges to the hospital information system as appropriate.



Checks for duplicate charges to account for patient Financial Operations and Rhode Island Medical Imaging and assures that all duplicates are credited as appropriate.



Checks outpatient accounts on hospital information system daily so that account/charge information will pass through to hospital financial information system.



Codes all exams related to Diagnostic Imaging inclusive of interventional procedures. Accurately enters charges into computer system matching to the correct account number.



Assists supervisor with reimbursement issues by obtaining proper information to establish patients� demographics and financial information.



Coordinates coding and billing issues with Rhode Island Medical Imaging Rhode Island Hospital and The Miriam Hospital.



Registers patients to obtain account information for billing. Assists with billing issues and follows up accounts so that proper insurance is billed. Calls insurance companies for follow up information and corrects in SMS system as appropriate.



Assists physician and patients by providing hospital technical fees and Rhode Island Medical Imaging professional fees.



Reviews analyzes and follows policies and procedures received from Medicare and all other insurance companies.



Assists in the resolution of equipment and computer problems within the immediate office.



Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Other information:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

High School diploma or equivalent.



Completion of formal education preferred or equivalent years of experience.



Training in ICD-9 & CPT Coding Anatomy Physiology and Medical Terminology.



Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care patients with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.



EXPERIENCE:

Two years of previous experience in coding billing and reimbursement.



Knowledge of SMS computer system.



Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills needed to perform duties.



Normal office environment; may experience some visual fatigue as result of extended periods of work on the computer.
