Clinical Nurse Specialist

Summary:

The Perinatal Clinical Nurse
Specialist (CNS)/Advanced Practice Clinician
serves as a clinical
consultant expert for The Noreen Stonor Drexel Birthing Center (TBC) nurse
leaders providers and staff. The CNS will plan design implement and evaluate
perinatal programs that influence and enhance innovative clinical excellence evidence-based
knowledge/practice research shared governance professional development and
exemplary quality care outcomes for obstetrical and newborn patients. Maintains
competence in regulatory agency requirements and evidence-based practices from
professional organizations such as the Association of Women�s Health Obstetric
and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) The American College of Obstetricians and
Gynecologists (ACOG) American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) American Nurses
Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Program Center for Medicare and Medicaid
Services (CMS) Joint Commission and Rhode Island Department of Health and
others.  

The Perinatal CNS is responsible for all aspects of Baby-Friendly-USA
compliance and maintaining Newport Hospital as a Baby Friendly designated
facility. Assumes responsibility for all aspects of planning coordination and
implementation of the annual Kenneth Hodge Carron Annual Safety Training
Program. Provides leadership and oversight of the Prenatal Education program
and Lactation Support group.


Collaborates with local colleges and universities to offer
robust educational/simulation programs/drills to TBC staff and providers on a
regular basis. Collaborates with the Lifespan Physician Group (LPG) Women�s
Health Practices and local Pediatric Offices to educate staff and providers on
educational needs to support TBC patient population and regulatory
requirements. 


In collaboration with Operation Excellence (OpX) oversees
collection and submission of key Perinatal outcome indicators verifies all
documentation requirements are met and develops quarterly and annual reports
and action plans for submission to The Maternal Joint Practice Meeting OB and
Pediatric Department meetings. 

 


Other information:

Master�s Degree in Nursing or a Bachelors degree in Nursing
with a Master�s degree in health related science or health administration. Graduate from a school of nursing and licensed to practice
as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island Thorough knowledge of the
Rhode Island Nurse Practice Act and current national nursing issues and trends.
Maintain current NRP BLS and ACLS certification. Maintains clinical
competency to understand processes and identify barriers to improve the quality
of patient care. 

Certifications in Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
Obstetric Nursing (OB) and Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) are preferred.



Minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in
labor and delivery/postpartum/nursery hospital setting with demonstrated
leadership ability teamwork teaching and communication skills. Experience
should exhibit an exceptional level of written and oral communication skills.
Proficient in using Microsoft Applications especially Word Excel and
PowerPoint. Project management experience preferred. Experience working with
EPIC Lifechart preferred.
