Clinical Supervisor

Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Clinical Service Director and Assistant Director the Clinical Supervisor performs all the functions a clinician typically does for a given service and also functions in a supervisory administrative and/or program management capacity within the Department of Psychiatry. Regarding professional standards regulatory and licensing requirements credentialing/privileges and continuing education this Clinical Supervisor also reports to the Manager of the Department of Clinical Social Work and Counseling if a SW/LMHC/LMFT or to the Chief Nursing Officer of Bradley Hospital if an APRN.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Performs all duties of the clinician (LICSW APRN LMHC LMFT) and demonstrates expertise in clinical specialty e.g. psychiatric illness chronic illness trauma critical care.

2. Under supervision from service leadership provides clinical supervision and work direction to clinical staff including LICSWs APRNs LMHCs LMFTs and others as assigned. Is familiar with the workflow of all clinical service sites. Coordinates work assignment of employees and ensures adequate coverage for clinical area of responsibility.

3. Communicates policy and procedures to area personnel and participates in their development.

4. Provides input on hiring employee work performance and evaluations. May participate in counseling of supervisees around performance issues.

5. Under supervision from service leadership participates in developing schedules coverage plans and employee work schedules and in coordinating patient access to services and programs by maintaining master schedules. Is available 24/7 for clinical and/or scheduling issues during designated time periods.

6. Maintains records prepares reports and composes correspondence relative to supervisory administrative and/or program management functions.

7. From a program development or administrative perspective provides clinical consultation in area of expertise within and outside the hospital.

8. Participates in and/or supports departmental studies grants projects committees and quality assurance activities.

9. Maintains and enhances professional expertise through educational activities.

10. Adheres to Lifespan Hospital and departmental policies and procedures to maintain a safe environment of care and be in compliance with all laws regulations and standards.

 

Other information:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:



Masters Degree in Social Work from an accredited graduate school (Current LICSW from State of Rhode Island required)

OR Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with degree from accredited graduate program (Current RI Licensing required)

OR Masters Degree from accredited graduate school leading to qualification as Licensed Mental Health Counselor or Licensed Marital and Family Therapist (Current RI Licensing required.)



Administrative and supervisory skills necessary to address these functions in the department or assigned clinical area.



Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment.



Interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to supervise and coordinate clinical activities.



Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and to develop or administer clinical services with consideration of stages of human development and cultural patterns. Analytical skills necessary to evaluate patients programs and procedures..



EXPERIENCE:



Minimum of 4 years of clinical experience preferably in a health or mental health setting with an emphasis on populations to be served in the assigned area.



Experience in supervision program development or administration required.



For Bradley Hospital Only: Eligibility for privileging in 3 areas of practice.



WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



Works in multiple settings including normal office environments as well as pediatric emergency department with exposure to patient care.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:



Will provide clinical supervision and work direction to clinical staff which may include LICSWs APRNs LMHCs LMFTs LCSWs and others as assigned an average of 5 for clinical service area.
