Summary:
Reports to the Senior Vice President Chief Nursing Officer. The Administrative Director is responsible for executive level management of the Pediatric Patient Services and Nursing Professional Development departments. Specific responsibilities include establishing nursing standards of practice along with the design implementation evaluation and continuous improvement of programs and systems of patient care delivery.

 

Responsibilities:
Develops and recommends short and long-term objectives for pediatric patient services and nursing professional practice in the achievement of Lifespan�s mission values and key business objectives. Provides sponsorship to the functions by identifying resources required to achieve optimal operating results and advocates for areas of responsibility during resource allocation. Develops recommends implements and monitors capital and operating budgets for the hospital�s pediatric patient services and nursing professional practice programs.
Directs the effective utilization of resources (people financial material and equipment) to meet established goals and objectives of Lifespan and the hospital.
Plans and directs the establishment of operating priorities to ensure activities support the system�s strategies while maintaining fiscal responsibility. Ensures effective recruitment selection development and evaluation of managerial professional and support staff to optimize the achievement of goals and objectives.
Collaborates with Physician-in-Chief of Pediatrics and Senior Vice President/CNO to plan design and implement customer-focused coordinated delivery of pediatric patient services and clinical programs. Collaborates and consults with peers and colleagues by defining functional standards and translating them into usable applications and/or care patterns. Collaborates with peers colleagues and physicians to develop mutually workable solutions in order to ensure consistency and continuity of functional applications across Nursing such as improved support services including registration billing and the like. Participates in development and assessment of new programs; assesses market position and provides analysis for decision-making process; participates in the development of related business plans.
Promotes effective planning and coordination of all services with physicians other departments and outside agencies. Ensures patient care activities support established clinical standards of care meet or exceed patient care quality standards are in compliance with various regulatory agencies and consider age-specific needs of the patient populations served. Ensures continuity of care customer relations and operational integration among inpatient services ambulatory care physicians and the community.
Designs and implements customer-focused delivery of nursing education programs including nursing orientation continuing education in-service education programs and undergraduate and graduate education programming. Promotes effective planning and coordination of professional development activities with other departments outside agencies and schools of nursing. Develops goals for nursing education evidence-based practice research and professional development of nursing staff. Oversees planning and evaluation of innovative patient care practices. Designs quality programs and processes in consideration of Lifespan�s goals and the constant pursuit of service quality. Ensures ongoing assessment of patient safety systems and programs. Responsible for staff knowledge and compliance related to Joint Commission and DOH standards and regulations.
Interprets and implements philosophy policy and practice for Pediatric Patient Services and Professional Practice. Develops implements and evaluates programs and services to consistently meet or exceed customers� needs through effective continuous quality improvement practices. Maintains compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. Provides for related record-keeping systems. Provides for systems to assess patient family and community needs for services and programs.
Serves as a role model to staff by continuously demonstrating Lifespan�s values and principles creating and maintaining effective positive customer service relationships by identifying customers and their needs ensuring the needs are met or exceeded and responding appropriately to difficult interactions and educating staff on the importance of quality customer service.
Effectively and continually communicates with the staff management and customers to facilitate the flow of information necessary to the success of employees department function and the organization. Provides effective labor and employee relations to promote employee-manager effectiveness and satisfaction in the workplace. Ensures compliance with collective bargaining agreements and human resource policies. Creates employee ownership in their careers and success and provides staff with positive and actionable feedback to maximize the utilization and potential of the organization�s human resources.
Facilitates continuous performance improvement by encouraging innovation supporting reasonable risk-taking and maintaining openness to new ideas. Collaborates with human resources staff to identify needs and develop programs to provide for continuous development of Pediatric Patient Services and Professional Practice staff.
Maintains expertise and learns of new developments in pediatric patient services and professional practice by participating in ongoing independent study education-related professional activities and affiliations.
Participates in or leads various committees tasks forces and quality improvement teams.

 

Other information:
QUALIFICATIONS-EDUCATION:

Bachelor�s Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university; Master�s Degree in Nursing or a related field such as healthcare administration or its equivalent. Must have current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

QUALIFICATIONS-EXPERIENCE:

Seven or more years of progressively more responsible related experience preferably gained in a similar diverse and operationally complex healthcare environment. Experience should demonstrate a very high level of written and verbal communication skills; ability to conceptualize develop and affect quality patient services effective leadership/management skills and commitment to continuous quality improvement. Thorough knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Rhode Island.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Supervisory responsibility for up to 275 FTEs.
