Invasive Cardiac Associate PD

Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Medical Director Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and the administrative supervision of the Cath Lab Manager performs a variety of duties which encompass but are not limited to the care and management of pre and post Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) patients including assisting in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab. All essential functions performed in this position reflect age specific needs of the patients.

 

Responsibilities:
Initiate patient orders for admissions pre-and post- PCI/cardiac catheterization care and daily in-house management as directed by the physician and in accordance with hospital procedure.



Obtain and record medical histories and physicals. Evaluate preadmission lab data. Provide backup for fellows in preadmission testing for PCI and cardiac catheterization patients.



Provide education to cardiac catheterization and PCI patients.



Assist physician throughout cardiac catheterization procedures including injecting coronary arteries with contrast media flushing and removing arterial lines drawing arterial and venous blood samples and passage of catheters and guidewires.



Perform post procedures evaluations on all PCI patients including assessing sheathe site reviewing EKGs lab data and assessing patients for anginal symptoms.



Respond appropriately to post procedure complications such as chest pain/angina sheath site bleeding hypotension or loss of peripheral pulses. Initiate appropriate therapy and testing. Consult with attending physician when appropriate.



Remove arterial and venous sheaths post-PCI.



Evaluate post-PCI patients daily and record progress note. Write appropriate orders.



Evaluate cardiac catheterization and PCI patients on anticipated date of discharge and discharge if appropriate. Dispense outpatient prescriptions and outpatient instructions to patient and family.



Prepare discharge summaries for the attending physician�s signature.



Provide follow-up patient care when required to evaluate sheath site or to clarify medical therapy when required.



Participate in Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory educational and research activities.



Maintain quality assurance safety environmental and infection control accordance with established hospital and department policies procedures and objectives.

 

Other information:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program. Certification eligible by the National Commission on the Accreditation of Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants. Certified in American Heart Association Advance Cardiac Life Support.

Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care patients with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.



EXPERIENCE:

One-year experience in a medical setting with patient care responsibility. Cardiology experience preferred.
