Lead Registered Nurse

Summary:

Under the supervision of the Clinical Manager oversees the nursing unit during assigned hours. Performs all duties of Charge Nurse. Performs all essential functions with consideration of the patients' age and developmental specific needs. Directs and monitors the daily activities in the assigned nursing department to ensure standards of patient care are met. Plans delegates and directs comprehensive nursing care by assigning instructing and leading a team of professional and/or ancillary staff. Serves as clinical and professional resource. Fosters patient and family-centered care in accordance with the Lifespan and Bradley Hospital�s mission vision values with consideration of the lifespan including all developmental stages and cultural patterns.

 

Responsibilities:

Oversees the daily operation of the assigned unit as charge nurse during assigned hours. Responsible for providing care to patients. Assigns and distributes the work of the units in a manner that makes best use of available resources considering the knowledge skills and abilities of each member of the team. Maintains a safe environment of care. Ensures quality care is delivered. Supervises staff and offers guidance and support. Ensures all operational tasks are completed efficiently and on time. Ensures that provider and patient needs are met. Participates with daily multidisciplinary team meetings and facilitates patient flow.

Assists with interviews provides input to hiring and orientsnew staff. Provides professional guidance and assistance to nursing personnel in work activities. Contributes to the performance evaluations of assigned units.

Collaborates with nurse leaders and staff to ensure that Bradley Hospital nursing achieves nursing Bradley Hospital and Lifespan strategic plan goals (i.e. Joint Commission compliance Magnet designation etc.).

Demonstrates flexibility and innovation to facilitate the changes required to improve operations enhance revenue effectiveness productivity collaboration responsiveness and other quality/safety metrics.

Communicates effectively with patients providers families leaders and other healthcare teams.

Performs the duties of Staff Nurse.

Maintains quality assurance safety environmental and infection control standards in accordance with established hospital department policies procedures and objectives.

Maintains required Hospital certifications.

Maintains required Program certifications.

Attends a minimum of 6 Program meetings per year.

Attends a minimum of 3 non-mandatory in-services per year.

Maintains current CPR certification.

Maintains current Safety Care certification.

Maintains current ERS certification

    • Performs other related duties as required.

    BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

    Graduatefrom a school of nursing and licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island. BSN and certification in area of specialty preferred National certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing is required within 12 months of hire to this position if not already certified.

    Current BLS certification. Minimum of 2 to 3 years nursing experience in assigned area. Demonstrated leadership skills.

    Responsible for maintaining a current knowledge of contemporary Professional Nursing practice within the legal framework of the Nurse Practice Act.

    Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 2 to 3 years nursing experience in assigned area. Demonstrated leadership skills. Must be able to demonstrate competence to participate in interdisciplinary formulation of individual plans of care and to direct monitor and evaluate the nursing care furnished. Must have high written electronic and verbal communication skills; the ability to conceptualize develop and affect quality patient services; and commitment to a culture of quality and safety.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Acute care hospital environment. Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact. Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use of safety equipment and protective clothing. Must be able to sit stand squat/kneel for 1-3 hours per day walk 3-7 hours per day lift over 50 lbs. with good mechanics twist/bend infrequently. Must be able to use both hands/wrists and perform work that deviates from neutral position and be able to perform fine motor skills. Must have accurate near and far vision 20/20 depth perception and discriminate among colors.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Functional supervision of employees. Supervision includes assigning work providing guidance and counsel and input for performance evaluations.
