Summary: Under the general supervision of the Manager Loss Prevention the Loss Prevention Risk Management Specialist is responsible for evaluating the potential for loss and risk exposures for indemnified parties. Loss Prevention includes but is not limited to hospitals providers offices practices property and auto liability. The Loss Prevention Risk Management Specialist will collaborate to develop and implement system wide programming to mitigate potential losses and risk exposures. The Loss Prevention Risk Management Specialist will collaborate with education vendors providers and senior leadership. The Loss Prevention Risk Management specialist will provide support to our indemnified providers and practices.
Responsibilities: Uses various internal and external data sources including Lifespan local regional and national professional liability experience data to identify potential/actual areas of risk. Complete office practice assessments. Gathers organizes and reviews information on clinical activities performed by practitioners covered. Communicates relevant information efficiently to providers and practice managers. Collaborate with the Insurance and Business Operation department to provide Loss Prevention guidance and activities identified by the underwriting team. Produces a variety of data to support the analysis and potential occurrence of loss. Information may be abstracted and summarized from surveys questionnaires loss ratios trends office practice assessments or by other means including as appropriate information gathering interviews. Under the supervision of the Manager Loss Prevention proactively reviews and analyzes claims and adverse actions brought against Lifespan affiliates and indemnified practitioners. Analyzes processes to minimize risk of adverse patient outcome and/or litigation. Identifies potential root causes trends and areas of potential risk. Identifies opportunities for quality improvement. Facilitates resolution of these risks by working collaboratively with affiliate-based staff. Uses various internal and external data sources including Lifespan local regional and national claims data to identify potential/actual areas of risk. Assists with the development of educational programs to covered individuals management and variety of other audiences that support patient safety initiatives mitigate reoccurrence minimize financial and legal exposures to the system. Performs other loss prevention and clinical risk management activities as required. Provides support for physician practices covered by the Lifespan Malpractice Plan. Maintains expertise in physician office-related regulatory and risk issues. Contributes written materials related to loss prevention to various Lifespan publications and prepares other educational documents. Serves as webmaster for the Department for development design and maintenance of its intranet and internet sites. Serves as liaison for the risk management education vendors. Under the supervision of the Manager of Loss Prevention and in collaboration with the department of Insurance and Business Operations evaluates potential risk for various volunteer activities sponsored camps and Lifespan events. Collects collates and analyzes departmental data for the purposes of presentation process improvement and risk mitigation. May participates in the on-call rotation for clinical risk management coverage for the system. Under the supervision of the Manager Loss Prevention assists with the management of the Loss Prevention Program for the malpractice coverage awards. In collaboration with the Loss Prevention and Claims teams evaluates coding fidelity for all claims reports new claims activity as applicable and trend claims loss prevention activity.
Other information: BASIC KNOWLEDGE A minimum if a bachelor�s degree in Nursing preferred. A degree in related healthcare-related field considered. Experience in leadership patient safety risk management and or loss prevention strongly preferred. Professional level of experience operating business applications with emphasis on database spreadsheet presentation applications in Microsoft Office required. A demonstrated mastery of statistical and other quantitative analytics preferred. EXPERIENCE At least five years� experience in hospital environment. Evidence of ability to prioritize and communicate effectively required. Evidence of highly developed platform presentation skills with effective interpersonal skills is required. The role requires the ability to adjust workflows in real time. The ability to apply critical thinking and event escalation skills to prioritize the daily workflow. Loss Prevention issues often delve into the unknown therefore the role requires an inquisitive investigative nature. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Work is most often performed in an office environment requiring extended periods of sitting standing and/or walking with travel to any Lifespan campus or facility as well as medical practitioners' offices/facilities. INDEPENDENT ACTION Performs independently within Lifespan Risk Services while working closely with the support of those responsible for Loss Prevention Risk Management Claims Management and Insurance/Business Operations.
