Manager Nurse Operations Capacity and Flow

Summary:

Lifespan�s EpiCenter is the hub of capacity management and access across the system. It serves a vital role in managing patient flow and throughput at the system level and at each individual site having visibility across all hospital operations and maintaining communication with all disciplines and teams. The EpiCenter is a central department with several branches charged with managing patient flow and throughput through access capacity and flow and transport teams with the primary goal of ensuring the right patient is place in the right place at the right time.

The Capacity and Flow Clinical Manager is responsible for capacity management for the Lifespan system with central oversight over the placement and throughput of patients at each individual site. The manager will demonstrate complex critical thinking and problem-solving skills as s/he oversees a team of Capacity and Flow Navigators and coordinators (logistics staff) to help facilitate patient throughput- addressing capacity movement and placement both at the system and site level. The manager will also have responsibility for capacity monitoring across the system working with local leaders to monitor situations and drive real-time interventions and solutions to ensure safe efficient and quality patient care. 

 

Responsibilities:

Responsible for providing leadership to both direct and matrixed reports within the EpiCenter team including Navigators Coordinators and other positions as they are further developed.

Expedite prioritize and mediate issues or barriers related to patient throughput serving as an escalation point for problem resolution

Represent the EpiCenter in system-level operations huddles; leading site and system-level capacity huddles as needed (specifically when in capacity surges or hospital crises etc.)

Provides a visible professional presence for the EpiCenter by collaborating with multi-disciplinary leaders to foster a positive team-based work environment.

Manage additional projects and participate on system-level (or site-specific) operational improvement committees as they relate to the EpiCenter patient throughput and hospital operations

Works collaboratively with site-level nursing operations to ensure the movement and flow of patients is in accordance with real time staffing and bed availability.

Develop standard operating procedures for system-level and department-level operations including standardizing workflows meeting structure and cadence and addressing and improving upon inefficiencies as they are identified.

Provide support for professional growth for staff providing resources and feedback to enhance leadership development

Define and assure adherence to department and organizational policies procedures and standards

Analyze data and identify opportunities for improvement in patient flow and throughput

Maintain open lines of communication with all members of the health care team

QUALIFICATIONS-EDUCATION:

Baccalaureate in Nursing; Master required (Nursing or related Health Care field acceptable). Consideration will be given to internal candidates committed to completing a master�s program.

Must have current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island or in another state that participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact.

 

QUALIFICATIONS-EXPERIENCE:
Three to five years� experience in healthcare supervision administration or hospital operations.

Familiarity with the Microsoft Office product Suite including Word Outlook Excel PowerPoint and Visio.

Proficiency with Epic and demonstrated comfort with technology utilized throughout the patient care processes.


SUPERVISION:
Schedule train assign work to participate in the evaluation of and when necessary recommend discipline and discharge of subordinate personnel when appropriate.

Direct supervision of 15-20 FTEs with the potential for this number to grow as the department continues to take shape.
