Pharm Bus Ops and CI Spclst

Summary:

Reports to Manager Pharmacy
Business Operations Clinical Intelligence & Contracting Lifespan.  Responsible for the development and
maintenance of pharmacy business information systems and technologies of
Pharmacy Services Lifespan.  Provide systems analysis for projects applications and
solutions in support of Pharmacy roadmap enterprise projects impacting
Pharmacy and business-funded initiatives. 
Directly accountable for effective quality and timely analysis and project
completion.
  Provides
ongoing support for information system users (i.e. Pharmacy Nursing Medical
Staff etc.).  Coordinates integration of
medication-related systems with Information Services.  Ensures that the Pharmacy systems are
provided in accordance with established policies and procedures and applicable
laws rules and regulations.  Monitors
Pharmacy systems through continuous quality improvement activities to ensure
that the customers' expectations are met or exceeded.  Participates in the development and
implementation of policies and procedures for the Pharmacy.

Implements interprets and
provides consultation for policies procedures and standards of practice for
effective use and maintenance of Pharmacy systems and technologies.  Continually reviews and analyzes systems
recommending and implementing software/hardware upgrades allocation of
resources new technologies etc. that will increase the efficiency and level
of service of Pharmacy.



Provides
input and assists in the development of effective budgeting and allocation of
resources (people financial material and equipment) to achieve agreed upon
goals and objectives.  Assists in
development of systems and databases to support ongoing analysis and evaluation
of salary and non-salary expense and revenue allocation.



Formulates and defines system scope and objectives based on user
defined needs. Devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems
considering computer equipment capacity and limitations operating time and
form of desired results.
Participates in the development of short and long-term goals of the
Pharmacy in consideration of Lifespan�s mission its values and its key
business objectives.  Provides sponsorship
to the function by identifying and recommending resources required to achieve
the operating results and advocates for them during resource allocation. 



Participates
in the integration of systems and technology with other departments to ensure
customer-focused and coordinated delivery of Pharmacy services.  Assists in the development implementation
and evaluation of services and programs to consistently meet or exceed
customers� needs through effective continuous quality improvement
practices.  Ensures all information
system and technology processes meet or exceed patient care quality standards
and are in compliance with various regulatory agencies.



Effectively
and continually communicates with the staff management and customers to
facilitate the flow of information. 
Provides timely and accurate communication both written and verbal as
appropriate regarding systems changes and upgrades including goals and
objectives of the Pharmacy as they related to Systems.



Responsible
for the coordination and integration of Pharmacy information systems and
technologies with other client server and mainframe systems as well as with
other affiliates and outside agencies. 
Provides recommendations related to and technical assistance in
installation maintenance and enhancements of Pharmacy related systems and
technologies.



Maintains
knowledge of and expertise in leading edge developments in Pharmacy systems
and automation and related information systems and technologies by
participation in ongoing independent study education-related professional
activities and affiliations.



Develops
supporting tools for business operations and clinical intelligence.  Extracts data from various file and data
storage formats and integrates with multiple information systems to develop
consolidated reports. Develops interactive web-based databases for monitoring
querying reporting and managing data and project tasks.  Develops and maintains programs information
systems and automation to enhance medication safety streamline operations
track clinical activities and improve inter- and intra-departmental
communication.



Programs monitors and manages automated tasks and
reporting tools.  Creates tools and
reports to monitor systems for data integrity and operations taking
appropriate corrective action measures as warranted.



Participates in continuous quality improvement
activities and total quality management initiatives.  Participates or leads various committees
task forces and performance improvement teams as assigned.



Coordinates
with Pharmacy business partners to identify and
specify complex business requirements and processes and in the application
design testing and implementation process (e.g. diverse development
platforms software hardware technologies and tools etc.). Clearly document
and communicate changes to customers and maintain a strong on-going
relationship with business partners and systems partners.



Assists
pharmacy personnel in the preparation of posters and abstracts for presentation
at professional organization meetings. 
Contributes to the development of manuscripts for publication in
professional journals and assists Pharmacy Business Operations and Automation
Specialist personnel in maintenance of the Pharmacy web site.



Occasional
travel between facilities or sites is required.



Participates
in on-call rotating schedule for Pharmacy technology and systems group. 

 

Other information:

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:



Bachelor�s
degree or equivalent in computer science business administration or related
field or equivalent work experience
with an advanced degree preferred.



EXPERIENCE:



Project
management skills including facilitation prioritization and resource
management.



Extensive
knowledge of computerized pharmacy information systems and related hospital
medication information systems (including physician order management) database
architecture and querying programming languages (e.g. Microsoft Access SQL
MySQL Visual Basic) advanced web programming languages (e.g. Javascript
ASP DHTML) task automation programs and systems networking connectivity and
interface structures (e.g. HL7) and personal computers including word
processing web page design database (including Filemaker Pro) and spreadsheet
design.
