Rehabilitation Aide

Summary:
Under general supervision of the Clinical Manager and the direct supervision of the physical and/or occupational therapists assists therapists in providing treatments designed to relieve pain and maximize function of patients from infancy to adolescence to adulthood through geriatric stages. Transports patients and records maintains stock/supplies and prepares and cleans treatment rooms.

 Responsibilities:
Demonstrates understanding of hospital�s mission vision and values.

According to established treatment plans and under the direct supervision of a therapists in the same geographic location may assist therapists in providing treatment when necessary including positioning and exercising patients.
Maintains State mandated equipment logs in accordance to the Hospital Joint Commission and State Department regulations.
Assists patient in restoring flexibility and strength to return patient to previous level of function. The program is designed and implemented by the therapists and carried out by the technician.
Cleans sterilizes and fills whirlpool. Keeps gym and treatment areas clean and in an orderly fashion.
Maintains appropriate stock levels of medical surgical work hardening items linen and housekeeping supplies. Assures that equipment such as wheel chairs walkers and crutches etc. are clean and functional.
Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities.
Performs other related duties as directed.

Qualifications:
High school graduate is required.
Basic understanding of therapy treatment programs and knowledge of body mechanics. Knowledge of standard precautions/infection control processes.
Interpersonal skills to deal effectively with patients and other members of the healthcare team.
Basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of the aging process human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
For High School graduates: One year related experience in fitness facility therapy clinic/service or hospital environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Frequent walking standing and lifting of equipment and patients.
Hazards of injury while transferring ambulating and guarding against patient injury are minimized with the use of proper body mechanics.
