Research Scientist

Overview: This position is primarily responsible for providing study design and statistical guidance and support for research efforts split between the Department of Orthopaedics (50%) and other Lifespan researchers (50%). Reporting primarily to the Director of the Lifespan Biostatistics Core (Jason T. Machan PhD) and coordinating with the division Chief of Research (Michael Ehrlich MD) in the Department of Orthopaedics; meets with them as needed to discuss ideas issues and research activity.

Duties include:

         Working with investigators to design and develop unique research proposals and research programs

         Assist in research question specification and formalization

         Design studies and experiments to answer research questions

         Collaboratively analyze/model data and interpret results

         Participate in research collaborations efforts with colleagues in other disciplines

         Publish in peer-reviewed scientific journals 

Research:

It is expected that 100% of the incumbent�s time will be devoted to research. Space will be provided. Half (50%) of their time will be exclusively dedicated to the Department of Orthopaedics with the remaining half (50%) determined by the Director of the Lifespan Biostatistics Core.

Teaching:

The incumbent will educate Orthopaedic Surgery Residents primarily through their research support as opportunity affords including �teaching to fish� for residents who wish to learn data analysis and associated software familiar to the incumbent.

Service:

The incumbent will be expected to actively participate in research activities of the Division of Orthopaedics Research and the Department of Orthopaedics and the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

Requirements: MD Ph.D. or both in a computational science or related field preferred. May consider master�s degree with sufficient experience.
