Laundry Mechanic Assistant

Summary:
Under general supervision is responsible for repairing replacing and performing routine maintenance to hospital machinery and equipment such as conveyors and laundry equipment.

 

Responsibilities:
Observes mechanical devices and other laundry equipment in operation to determine cause of malfunction and coordinates repair with mechanic supervisor.



Assists mechanic in the repair of malfunctioning equipment or machinery by dismantling devices to gain access to and remove and replace defective parts. May require operation of hand tools in performing maintenance.



Keeps record of repairs and replacements performed and lubrication of machinery and other equipment.



Performs routine maintenance of laundry machinery and equipment and works under direct guidance of mechanic when performing complex repairs and replacements.



On a daily basis uses a air hose with metal extension blow down from top to bottom lint and dust on all washing machines dryers iron spreader feeders sheet and piece folders.



Will check on a daily bases all drain covers or screens under washers to make sure they are clear of debris and properly in place and removes and debris which may be present. Also removes lint from lint collector of dryer.



On a bi-weekly basis will grease all washing machines as directed by mechanic.



On a monthly basis will grease all gearboxes on machines such as dryers ironers spreader feeder and sheet folder piece folders pants and shirt presser and other areas of machines as needed and as directed by mechanic and cleans inside pressers where needed.



On an annual basis will grease all washing machine gearboxes and other areas of machine.



Change or repair air hoses carts and cart wheels and tapes on ironer when needed.



Greases motors and rollers on all conveyors every three months.



May perform LA2 or LA1 work when required.



May be required to carry a radio or a beeper.

 

Other information:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Requires graduation from a vocational/technical high school or trade school.



Required post-high school courses in basic technical skills.



Ability to follow instructions and observe safety precautions.



Work knowledge of standard maintenance tools and their proper use and care.



The ability to read and write English and understand and count numbers.



EXPERIENCE:

Six to twelve months on-the-job training or experience to become familiar with laundry equipment and machinery.



WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Walking standing pushing stooping lifting going up and down ladders.



Works in laundry operation area where there is dust dirt and noise from equipment with exposure to heat and also to unpleasant odors in work areas.



Exposure to hazards such as hot pipes and moving mechanical parts.



Hazards are minimized with adherence to safety precautions.
