Lead Radiological Tech

Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Manager Medical Imaging assists in technical supervision of Radiographers and performs a variety of radiographic procedures. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the adult and geriatric patient and adapt their care to the physical psychosocial and cultural needs.

 

Responsibilities:
Assists in the supervision of the floor staff as directed. Controls the flow of inpatients coming to the department. Reviews the charts of incoming patients assigns a Radiographer and performs quality control of finished examinations. Arranges transportation back to the patient room or discharge of outpatient. Prioritizes work of staff in order to accomplish daily tasks within appropriate time frames.
Provides input in the evaluation of Staff Radiographers with the Radiology Manager.
Provides for the safety and comfort of all patients in accordance with prescribed standards.
Maintains adequate inventory and supply levels. Orders supplies as needed or informs Radiology Manager of ordering requests. Initials Storeroom requisitions.
Participates in the orientation of new staff radiographers.
Prepares work schedules and prepares holiday and vacation schedules for approval by Diagnostic Imaging Manager.
Initiates service calls for processor and equipment repairs. Initiates work orders as needed. Provides an understandable explanation of radiologic examinations to patients and answers questions to reduce patient apprehension. Provides safety comfort to patients in accordance with prescribed standards.
Responsible for general radiographic and procedures requiring sound understanding of anatomical positioning and physiology so that independent selection and modification of technical factors may produce optimum results.
Operates fixed radiographic equipment in the Radiology Department and/or transports and operates portable radiographic equipment on Nursing Units and in the Operating Room when required.
Follows protocols for appropriate usage of the Radiology Information Systems. Responds to appropriate tracking reports.
Develops exposed radiographic images using automatic image processors when required.
Operates digital radiographic equipment as needed.
Maintains quality assurance safety environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies procedures and objectives. Keeps work area in a clean and orderly manner.
In the absence of the Educational Coordinator conducts daily and supervision of students in the CCRI and RIH Radiologic Technology Program.
Performs other related duties as required.
 

Other information:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Two years of formal training in a school of Radiologic Technology.
Must be a Registered Radiologic Technologist with current license to work in the State of Rhode Island.
Must hold current ARRT certification.
Have the ability to consistently meet the following job accountabilities: critical thinking interpersonal skills team membership customer focus initiative and reliability.
Knowledgeable about and observant of hospital and departmental guidelines standards and safety regulations.

EXPERIENCE:
Two years of general radiology experience.
Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals physicians� offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises.
Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact.
Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use safety equipment and protective clothing.
Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day.
Subject to electrical and energy hazards.
May lift and position patients and lift supplies up to 50 pounds.
