Nursing Assistant PD

Summary:
Under the supervision of the Staff Nurse and within Hospital and department policies and procedures assists in caring for patients and/or families from admission to discharge. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age-specific needs of the patients.

 

Responsibilities:
Assists patients with activities of daily living.



Assists the Staff Nurse with all aspects of the nursing process including but not limited to assisting with collection of baseline and ongoing assessment data following the nursing management plan and monitoring the patient response to nursing interventions.



Provides and/or reinforces patient instruction.



Performs designated treatments under supervision according to Nursing Department Policy and Procedure.



Functions as a patient sitter for all types of patient sitter scenarios.



Assists in the overall function of the nursing unit under direction of Staff Nurse.



Demonstrates accountability and responsibility as a hospital employee.



Maintains quality assurance safety environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies procedures and objectives.



Ability to perform responsibilities in emergency/code situations including CPR.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

For Inpatient Nursing Units Only: Successful completion of Advanced GENESIS Nursing Assistant (AGA) training within the first year of employment with demonstrated competency.



High school graduate or General Equivalent Diploma. Current RI registration as a Certified Nursing Assistant with current certification in Basic Life Support with Healthcare Provider.



Read write and speak English; ability to perform basic computer skills.

Ability to identify and report unsafe situations to the Staff Nurse.



Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.



EXPERIENCE:

For inpatient positions - one year�s nursing assistant experience one year�s experience of successful employment at TMH or graduate of stepping up or workforce stat program. For outpatient clinic positions - one year�s experience in a clinic or physician�s office setting. For procedural area positions - one year�s experience in an outpatient procedural setting. OR currently matriculated in a Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited Baccalaureate Degree Program in Nursing.

Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients visitors physicians and Hospital staff of all levels.



WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals physicians� offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact. Any potential hazards are minimized or nullified by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use safety equipment and protective clothing.



Prolonged sitting standing and walking. May be required to lift/turn patients and equipment. Repeated bending squatting stooping.
