Registered Nurse

Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for managing the individualized patient care by promoting and restoring patients� health through the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; providing physical and psychological support to patients and families; and supervising assigned team members. The RN is responsible to the Clinical Manager for the assigned Department.

The float RN position will work in concert with the centralized staffing office to schedule hours across the programs on the Bradley campus. Training will be completed across the campus programs to ensure competency for the varying patient populations and levels of care. 

 

Responsibilities:

Conducts an individualized patient assessment prioritizing the data collection based on the patient�s immediate condition or needs within timeframe specified by policies procedures or protocols.

Conducts ongoing assessments as determined by patient�s condition and/or policies procedures or protocols and reprioritizes care accordingly.

Develops plan of care that is individualized for the patient reflecting collaboration with other members of the healthcare team.

Performs appropriate treatments as ordered by LIP in an accurate and timely manner.

Performs therapeutic nursing interventions as established by individualized plan of care for the patient and his/her/their family.

Delivers care with appropriate age and cultural competence to specific patient populations according to individualized needs.

Provides individualized patient/family education customized to the patient and his/her/their family.

Documents patient assessment findings physical/psychosocial responses to nursing intervention and progress towards problem resolution.

Maintains confidentiality in matters related to patient family and client facility staff.

Provides care in a non-judgmental non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to the patient�s and family�s diversity preserving their autonomy dignity and rights.

Reports patient condition to appropriate personnel during each shift.

Maintains current competency in nursing specialty by attending education workshops; reviewing professional publications and CEUs as required by State licensing.

Supervises Behavioral Health Specialists and support staff in accordance with program standards.

Provides consistent leadership on unit when assigned as Charge Nurse according to program standards.

Remains current on updates regarding unit and/or hospital by reading email and other communication from Bradley and Lifespan.

 

Other information:

Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursingorlicensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Graduate of a school of nursing with current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island.

Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

EXPERIENCE:

One year of psychiatric nursing and/or pediatric nursing preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT ANDPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is performed in a psychology-based clinical setting requiring extensive standing walking and occasional lifting of patients. Strong background and experience working with students with various emotional and behavioral disorders in addition to a developmental disability such as mental retardation of autism spectrum disorders

INDEPENDENT ACTION:

Performs independently within program policies and practices. Refers specific complex problems to supervisor where clarification of Program policies and procedures may be required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises Behavioral Health Specialists and provides unit wide supervision when assigned as a Charge Nurse.
