Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field from an accredited college or university with current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island or in the nurse’s primary state of legal residency if that state is a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact. Conformity to the Code of Professional Nurses.

Understanding of the provisions of the Nurse Practice Act of the state of Rhode Island. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and sensitivity to cultural diversity in each step of the care process. Understands the provisions of the Nurse Practice Act of the state of Rhode Island – is responsible for maintaining a current knowledge of contemporary professional nursing practice within the legal framework of the Nurse Practice Act.

Seven to ten years of progressively responsible hospital management experience, preferably in an academic medical center.

The Director Surgical Services reports to the Senior Vice President, Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and Patient Care Services of The Miriam Hospital. Plans, organizes, and directs overall activities of Nursing Services in the Operating Room, Postanesthesia Care Unit, SurgiCenter, Sterile Processing, Pre-Admission Testing, the Total Joint Center, and Bariatrics.
