Graduate from an accredited Nurse practitioner program with MS degree. Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) to practice in the expanded role. License must include prescriptive privileges. Certification by the American Heart Association in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required.
Clinical experience as a nurse practitioner for 2 years is preferred or a supervised clinical internship in cardiology. Must have patient care services, procedures and privileges approved by the sponsoring physician.
Background in surgery, recovery, or medical surgical nursing strongly preferred. Neuro, Gyn, Cardiac, and/or transplant care preferred. Ability to work independently, strong assessment skills, and familiarity with electronic health record preferred.
Reports to the Clinical Director of the Nurse Practitioner Service. Under the general supervision of the Lead Nurse Practitioner II, and the Attending Physician of Record, the nurse practitioner is responsible for the development and evaluation of treatment plans for inpatients. The Nurse Practitioner assists in the care and management of cardiac patients to include, but not limited to: admission history and physical, ongoing assessment and intervention, and coordination of care for the cardiac inpatient population. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the patient.
